Digital Painting —
September 2022
A few years ago, I was working almost
exclusively with 'real world' media — either
drawing
with graphite pencils — or using pastels, etc.
Though, I often thought about getting a
laptop with a large 17" screen for digital painting —
and one day found a used one
at a local shop.
It was powerful, but expensive — so I
prayed about getting it — and then still unsure if I
was making the right decision — a few days later I
parted with some sweet cashola and walked
out the door with it under my arm.
Now a few years later I can assuredly say
I LOVE IT — use it almost every day for painting — and
KNOW IT WAS AN ANSWER TO PRAYER!

Sometime in 2019, I created the first
version
of
'Strato'
(new version above) in a 'real world' sketchbook
— colored with
pastel pencils — and you can find that effort here.
Looking back now — I see all the weaknesses and
flaws in that original design and execution. So I decided
to revisit that image using my 'new' laptop & actually thought
it would be an easy project — just to 'clean it up a bit'
and make some adjustments — but if you compare
today's image with the old one — you'll see I reworked
it extensively
— and though it took way longer than
anticipated, I'm pleased with the new version.
