I go out to work at various coffee houses
and restaurants and often attract a LOT of attention
when I set up my 17 inch laptop, and Wacom interface
& stylus — along
with a separate 17 inch monitor.
Frequently, people will begin by teasing me
about my 'mobile office' and I joke back that the
'lease' is 'pretty affordable there — and many times
that leads to questions about what I'm up to.
I noticed one employee there who has quite a
look — with very curly hair and a big beard — and
after I got to know him a bit I asked if I could take a
pic
of him and paint his portrait — knowing all that
curly hair would make a fun challenge.
He acts in local theater, so I took some
artistic license and cast him as a metal-smith for
in my portrait of him and gave him an
appropriate
wardrobe to match — rather than the ordinary
work duds he was wearing in the pic.
I hadn't done any portrait work in a long time
and this effort has already produced some much
needed commissions for more. HOORAY!
